Building and Growing Great Mobile Products  |  SC Moatti, Products that Count

How do you go about creating products used by billions of people? What are the new rules shaping the future of connected technology? How do you consistently find new sources of triple-digit growth? Our mobile products are essentially the new extension of ourselves. The more connected we become to them, the more we expect the same from them. Silicon Valley investor, entrepreneur & mobile visionary SC Moatti lays out the three rules that every mobile product needs to be successful and shares best practices and case studies for accelerating mobile growth.

How Airbnb Does Data Science  |  Jeff Feng, Airbnb

Airbnb is a trusted community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations and experiences around the world. As a consumer company, data represents the voice of Airbnb's users at scale, and Data Scientists play the role of interpreter. Data Scientists at Airbnb face unique challenges due to the dynamics of our two-sided marketplace, the online and offline components of our platform and the vast surface area of our product.

Jeff will discuss Airbnb's emphasis on having an experimentation-centric culture and applying machine learning rigorously to address our unique product challenges. Additionally, Jeff will summarize Airbnb's approach in scaling a team from 1 to 100 Data Scientists. This includes their strategy of embedding Data Scientists on every team, investing heavily in data infrastructure and tooling before scaling Data Science, and providing broadly accessible data education to everyone in the company.

Their talk will cover topics ranging from the cultural challenges of executive alignment and stakeholder partnership, to the functional intricacies of prioritizing tests and getting the data science right.

Navigating the Experimentation Lifecycle: a Netflix perspective  |  Steve Urban, Netflix

Netflix is well known for disrupting the linear TV and cable marketplace, with over 100 million subscribers enjoying our content in over 190 countries worldwide. Our success has been driven by innovation throughout content, marketing, and of course, the Netflix product itself. On this front, one of the most fundamental and impactful techniques we employ is experimentation.

Experimentation however, is not a simple matter of creating two versions of a feature and running an A/B test. For you to truly reap the benefits of experimentation, you must successfully navigate through several cultural, analytical, and engineering challenges. In this session, Steve will take you on a journey through the lifecycle of an experiment, highlighting these challenges and how Netflix addresses them.
